Who broke ranks: AI Stocks correlation, the last three months against the year before

Stocks of one group usually move together. This compares, for each of the 741 pairs among 39 stocks, how closely the two moved together over the last 63 sessions (Aug 4 to Oct 30) with the 252 sessions before (from Aug 1). A pair that drifted apart is where a hedge stops hedging and a pairs trade stops working; a group that loosens as a whole is a market of single stories.

Read it as where to look, not as proof. With 63 sessions a single pair’s correlation is uncertain by about ±0.1, and among 741 pairs some large changes appear by chance alone; “lowest of 5 quarters” marks a pair whose last three months sit below every quarter of the year before, and “mostly one session” a pair whose change comes from a single day on which the two went far apart (often a company report) — open the pair to see it. Readings: shifted = fell by more than 0.20 · minor shift = by 0.05 to 0.20 · negligible = by less than 0.05 · steady = unchanged or a little closer · strengthened = rose by 0.30 or more. Not in the study: CBRS (listed for 118 sessions — the study needs 321).

What this room is, and how to read it

The AI trade is not one stock. It runs from the chip makers, through the platforms that buy the chips and build the models, the clouds and server makers that rent out the computing, the software built on top — down to the power companies that feed the data centres. This room holds 40 of those names in 5 camps, so you can see at a glance whether the whole field is moving or only one camp. The selection is SpyForecast’s own: it is not an index, and a stock being on it is not a recommendation.

What is the AI Stocks War Room?

One page that shows 40 AI stocks at once, in five camps — chips, platforms, AI cloud and hardware, software and data, power: a heat map, the day’s biggest gains and losses, which stocks move the group, how many stand above their averages, which pairs stopped moving together, and how option dealers are positioned in each name.

Which stocks are in it, and who chose them?

We did. It is our own list of 40 companies with a busy option market whose business the AI build-out runs through: Chips (NVDA, TSM, AVGO, MU, AMD, ASML, INTC, AMAT, LRCX, ARM, QCOM, MRVL); Platforms (AAPL, MSFT, AMZN, GOOGL, TSLA, META, ORCL, IBM); AI cloud & hardware (ANET, SNDK, DELL, VRT, ALAB, NBIS, CRWV, SMCI, CBRS); Software & data (PLTR, CRWD, CRM, NOW, SNOW, ADBE, APP); Power (GEV, ETN, CEG, VST). It is not an index, it is reviewed as the field changes, and being on it is not a recommendation.

Are the prices live?

While the US market is open the figures refresh about once a minute on delayed quotes (about 15 minutes behind); after the close the page shows the closing prices, and every night it is rebuilt from end-of-day data. The line under the title always says which of the three you are looking at.

How is the heat map sized and coloured?

Each tile is one stock. Its size is the stock’s share of the group by market value (share count × price), and its colour is the change over the period you pick — today, five days, one month or this year. “Equal” draws every stock the same size, so the small names can be read too.

What does “lifting the group” mean?

A stock’s change multiplied by its weight: how many percentage points of the group’s move come from that one stock. A small gain in a very heavy name can lift the group more than a large gain in a light one — which is why an index can rise while most of its stocks fall.

What is the correlation shift?

For every pair of stocks the page compares how closely the two moved together over the last 63 sessions (about three months) with the 252 sessions before that (a year). A pair whose correlation fell by more than 0.20 is called shifted; one that rose by 0.30 or more, strengthened. A shift is a place to look, not a proof: with three months of data a single pair’s correlation is uncertain by about a tenth either way, and among thousands of pairs a few large changes appear by chance.

What do long gamma and short gamma mean?

They describe how the dealers who sold or bought the options must hedge. Long gamma: they trade against a move, which tends to calm it. Short gamma: they trade with the move, which can let it stretch. It is estimated from open interest after each close, and it describes positioning — it is not a forecast of direction.

What is “moved more than its options priced”?

Implied volatility is the size of move the option market charges for. Divided down to one day it gives a priced one-day move; the page compares the stock’s actual change with it. A stock at 2× has moved twice what its options priced for a day.

Is this investment advice?

No. The page describes what prices and option positioning are, for research and education. Nothing on it is a forecast, a target or a recommendation.

From the room to one stock

A room shows the field. The Viewer opens any one of these stocks completely: its option chain, the walls and the gamma flip over time, implied volatility, the dealers’ gamma, vanna and charm — 121 daily series, each against the stock’s own history.
